The work of pastry chef Jena Derman just came across my path and I am so in love, there is a gorgeous alchemy in her treatment of fruit and crust that elevates the humble pie to unprecedented levels. With delicately handled fruit, Derman creates exquisitely intricate patterns to adorn her delectable tarts. Opting for wedding pie instead of (or in addition to) traditional cakes is growing ever more popular and Derman's work makes it obvious why.

A few points of interest: 1) marching band. 2) Abigail wrote a beautiful description about the ceremony, including this: "[the bride] and Walter chose to see each other beforehand, and then immediately after the ceremony they took a private, ten-minute walk through the woods. They wisely understood how easy it is to spend the whole wedding together without really getting a chance to stop and appreciate what has happened."

Love, love this idea for handkerchief wedding invitations, save the dates, and keepsakes from Junebug Weddings. How perfectly sweet and practical (light & small!) and so easy to customize, whether you create your own original napkins or print on some sweet vintage ones. We did something similar for an event at the shop when we hand sewed some blush linen napkins and had our guest artist Kime Buzzelli screen print them as limited edition party favors. I just went away to the beautiful and breathtaking Hudson Valley and all that I can wonder is why doesn't everyone want to live there? How can there not be a stampede up the Taconic? Whatever the reasons (mostly work I would assume), there's no reason not to go every so or very often for a getaway. And upstate weddings have always been my favorite. One place that I went in particular, the Hawthorne Valley Farm, is a kind of idyllic, Utopian community centered around agriculture, community, and education. And, I think, would also be an incredible place to get married. Here are some pictures I snapped while there and a few surrounding locations, all of which I hope to return to soon.

Grand Opening is an amazing collective in the LES on Norfolk Street. They have a storefront that they re-conceptualize twice a year, with an entirely different theme each time (from drive-in movie theater to trade school). Their current theme? A functioning wedding chapel. You have six months to get hitched!

One of my most popular little wedding looks Spring, the Parthenon Dress, made in silk Georgette with silk lining. This dress has flown off the rack in custom orders ranging from knee length, to mid-calf, and floor length (like the one photographed here). I was honored when my lovely business partner, Pam, chose to wear it to a recent wedding. She told me that she had never felt more beautiful. This classic, Grecian style has a timeless chic that can easily translate from guest, to bridal party, to bride, depending on the color and styling. After the ceremony, the Parthenon could be worn more casually with some woven sandals and a blazer.

Ruth & Amanda of Quatre Coeur are some of my favorite ladies. Although these girls have only just begun their floral design business, I have loved everything that I have seen come out of their studio so far, so much so that we asked them to handle the floral arrangements for our one year anniversary party at the shop. Strolling down 5th Avenue yesterday, I saw lots of beautiful white and blue incorporated in to the window displays along the mass market mile around 17th and 16th streets.

I love the idea of borrowing some of these concepts for a ceremony venue - ombre rope curtains or hanging shell discs suspended from cloth as a ceiling arrangement or backdrop. It's affordable and memorable, the color story is versatile, and best of all, it's light and playful but it still feels finished and new.

I LOVE this Refinery29 post on engagement & wedding rings. Finally, the jewelry is catching up to the wedding revolution that has been afoot for sometime. Shanan & Chris took advantage of their February 27th wedding date by creating a winter wonderland in the middle of Downtown Toronto. Shanan, an artist and graphic designer, and Chris, an artist, had no shortage of inspiration to draw from. Assisted by a host of able-handed friends and family, they created such a distinctive time and place, styling a completely unforgettable event that had them written all over it. From handmade paper flower clusters littering the ceiling and woodland elements scattered everywhere, to a snow machine for the first dance. Not to mention, Shanan's bouquet of Baby's Breath may be my favorite thing ever. I think no matter what the scale or level of grandeur a wedding possesses, the goal is to create a moment that is totally unique to the couple, as well as inviting to their guests, reflecting their highest hopes and dreams about the life that lay ahead. I think Shanan and Chris did that beautifully.

I just came across this sweet wedding favor concept from the Martha Stewart Weddings site. Give your guests tulip bulbs to plant at home and make them inviting by using these paper templates before they bud and bloom. I love the idea of making little faces or hands or characters for a more intimate gathering. There are also endless possibilities for the containers. I once did something similar to this when I gave a friend a sprouted Amaryllis plant that had not bloomed yet, I used a living flower instead of paper though (which definitely has a shorter shelf life). The best part is you can pick shades from your wedding colors, enhancing the overall look of the event and giving everyone a bright, living piece to take away. See how here.

Casmena Dress & Castle Dress

Jess and Jess proposed to one another. From there, the details quickly fell in to place for their intimate wedding - bright handfuls of flowers in mason jars; live Bluegrass music - all to take place in Jess R.'s familial home in Vermont later that summer.

And so, on one beautiful August afternoon, the two tied the knot. For her wedding dress, Jess chose a floor length Casmena Dress in cream silk charmeuse, hand dyed in shades of blue, teal, and aubergine with matching silk chiffon straps. Her sister wore a Castle Dress in cocoa silk charmeuse. Both dresses were selected off the rack when the bride-to-be, her sister, and their mother (all three pictured together, below) were window shopping one afternoon and came upon the two dresses at once. It was love at first sight, and after a few slight alterations for fit on the Casmena, the two dresses went home with them to take their place amongst the many features of the unforgettable ceremony that followed.

A Floral Tale.

I recently had my first foray in floral arranging for a wedding. The ceremony was tucked away in a grassy courtyard amidst the mountains and desert of Palm Springs, California at the chic Viceroy Hotel. The bride gave me her color palate (yellow, pink, and white), a handful of cash, and sent me to the flower market in downtown Los Angeles the day before the wedding to do the shopping. It was a thrilling experience. The massive flower market, with warehouse after warehouse of vendors, defied all of my expectations and the challenge was truly a joy to execute.

From the massive sea of flowers, I selected pink Dahlias; white Spider Mums; the pincushion like yellow Craspedias; seedless Sunflowers with small, dense petals; buds from Evergreens and magenta Cockscomb for texture; and sinuous white Lisianthus. I filled forty vintage milk glass containers of various shapes and sizes with arrangements, as well as two bouquets - one a romantic, all white Lisianthus arrangement wrapped in hot pink grosgrain ribbon for the maid of honor and the other a bright peony arrangement wrapped in black grosgrain ribbon for the bride herself. We set the Peony buds in the sun the day of the ceremony so the silky petals would unfurl themselves for her walk. The ground was sprinkled with white and yellow rose petals.

Sands Top and Visor Skirt.

Josh stole Pam away on her birthday for a surprise boat ride around the island of Manhattan and surprised her again shortly after they set sail with The Question.

For their November wedding, held at dusk in an intimate courtyard at the Viceroy Hotel in Palm Spring, California, Pam requested a custom look for her wedding reception that would enable her to move freely on the dance floor with her many guests after the ceremony. We selected the Sands Top with its Grecian gathering and sweetheart shaped bodice in silk charmeuse. The top suspends off the shoulders with a single layer, raw-edged silk chiffon yoke. For the skirt, we picked the Visor, a paper bag skirt that we made in double face silk satin lined in the same silk charmeuse as her top. Both were made in pure white. The dance off with her father to Proud Mary that ensued later that evening proved the look to be a success, entirely worthy of its purpose.

The Cove Dress

Colin proposed to Erin on a cold winter day in February at a Queens' park that they had ventured to on their very first date.

For her beach side wedding one warm summer day in Connecticut, the Bride opted for a custom designed wedding dress. We chose a palate of four shades, ranging from pale yellows to cream. The sunny hue of the silk was the perfect complement to the 3 o'clock sun overhead as she walked down a grassy hill, arm in arm with her father, to the altar. The dress was adorned with hand gathered chiffon rosettes matching the tones of the dress and the low cut back was punctuated with a pale chiffon waterfall train that flowed behind her as she walked.

Wedding Favors & Keepsakes

For Erin and Jonny, I wanted to create a sweet and simple keepsake that would both match the aesthetic of the ceremony and be of use to their guests.

To begin, I sourced some old fashioned, miniature notebooks. From there, I created a stamp with their initials and a rendering of the heart tattoos that they share. We stamped the front of the books and tied them up in a burlap twine to complete the package. As there was no assigned seating for their wedding, the notebooks were displayed in a large pile next to the Polaroid guestbook.

For their wedding, the Bride chose a soft hued blue silk georgette with silk charmeuse straps and sashes for her six person bridal party. The soft palate complimented the industrial fixtures of the Foundry Building in Long Island City, New York where their ceremony was held. A pale light was cast over the aisle through the skylight ceiling as her girls preceded her, one by one, down the aisle.
